Amazing Race via train to Kalk Bay and Simons Town

This event is the closest to the real Amazing Race experience! Half Day or Full Day options

You will be catching a train and racing in and between Simon’s Town and Kalk Bay area. Hidden clues will be found in famous museums and historical places.

In the past century, Kalk Bay has taken on a creative character that has made it a favoured residential area for artists, writers, musicians, restaurateurs and nightclub owners. Many of its fine old buildings have been renovated and preserved, and buying a house in Kalk Bay is often a tedious process because no-one wants to leave the place.

Simon’s Town has a rich and multicultural heritage. Simon’s Town Museum highlights events in the development of Simon’s Town through the centuries. The South African Naval Museum in the Mast House (1815) alongside the Simon’s Town Museum, displays models of ships and related maritime events.

The challenges will take place at the beach area and on a picnic grass area.

Green Point and Sea Point Amazing Race

This course will be undertaken on foot across the Seapoint Promenade and Greenpoint Urban Park. Experience one of the best areas of Cape Town in all its splendour. The Promenade is famous as a place of diversity, a place to explore public art, a healthy place, a place to connect to our marine heritage and a place to feel the power of the ocean.

Greenpoint Urban Park has a number of educational displays and each is expertly designed to walk you through various ecological and cultural themes.

Included in this Race will be a picnic for lunch at the Promenade.

Kirstenbosch Amazing Race

This route will be undertaken on foot in Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens. Enjoy the spectacular views and take in the calming atmosphere of the gardens as you search for clues!

Kirstenbosch is home to thousands of species of new and interesting plants from all over southern Africa, as well as sculptures and art pieces scattered all around the gardens. It is also home to the newly added “Boomslang” which is a 130m treetop canopy walkway.

Castle of Good Hope Amazing Race

The Castle of Good Hope is a bastion fort built in the 17th century in Cape Town, South Africa. Originally located on the coastline of Table Bay, following land reclamation the fort is now located inland. Explore this amazing historical monument while looking for clues, visiting the museums on site, learning amazing facts and much more! Members will then enjoy lunch at a restaurant nearby after the race.

How will it work?

Included in the Race are clues, scavenger hunts and riddles that teams will need to solve in order to progress to their next destination. There will be Team Challenges at several points that will draw on the teams cognitive, physical and creative skills ensuring that there is something for everyone! We aim to keep all challenges non-strenuous and more focused on the teamwork and team strategy aspect which results in interactive challenges. Each Challenge’s instructions are received via envelope once you reach the destination. A facilitator will be there to hand it to you and watch the game unfold. Once each challenge is completed, you obtain the clue to the next clue or challenge.

Here’s your chance to be like Grissom, Willows, and Horatio as you take part in your own Crime Scene Investigation Team build.

Crime Scene Investigation is a team building event where your team gets to do all the intricate sleuthing, while working together in this extremely fun team building game.

Over the course of the event you will see participants’ attention to detail, ability to work as a team, leadership skills and problem solving skills put to the test.

Teams will investigate and solve crime scenes based on subtle clues that will be placed along the way. Only by cracking one case can the team move onto the next case.. Just like the CSI tv show teams will have to re-enact to other teams how the crime scene would have unfolded from their perspective.

The team build is loosely based on the popular Minute To Win It phenomenon and includes a number of challenges. Much like the television hit, Minute to Win It, teams compete in a series of deceptively simple tasks using everyday objects. We create a game-show atmosphere with a large clock ticking down along with music to increase the tension! As your hands are shaking and heart is pounding, remember, time’s a ticking! Minute To Win It has been designed to ensure that the following outcomes are achieved: Shared practices as it opens the opportunity for other team members to share the way they felt was best and fastest way to complete the challenge, allowing different team member’s strengths to shine.

Energy and excitement will fill the room as teams compete against each other and the clock. This usually results in lots of laughter as a deceivingly simple task is not as simply anymore with the time pressure.

A Motivating culture is naturally expressed, and born through this activity which your team can take back to the office along with the funny memories to cherish.

Up to 30 Challenges can be done.

Minute To Win It can be done anywhere. This is our most Mobile Activity.

A theme will be to never give up as there might even be a “Redemption Island” twist to bring your team back in the game.

Members need to form alliances with other teams, scheme, and form good relationships in order to get the votes on the final hurdle in order to be announced as the ultimate Survivors. Before the final tribal council and voting there will be a short break to provide teams with an opportunity to bargain and make last minute deals in order to secure votes.

Outplay

All the teams will compete on a variety of challenges against each other. Challenges are designed to be teamwork focused and has a balance in the skills needed at each challenge ensuring there is something for every type of individual. Personal Preference Profiling

It is no secret that high performing teams deliver positive business impact and operational efficiencies, avoiding waste and missed opportunities.

We need to recognise and celebrate the fact that each person in an organization is unique, with different styles, needs and expectations.

Some individuals are action orientated sometimes at the expense of ensuring buy in from others whilst other individuals focus on the detail but struggle to implement. Then there are the individuals who bring a calmness to the team, and individuals who seem to always be positive and filled with energy.

In these differences are great strengths for the organization, but how do we recognize and make the best of them?

So how do you build a high performance team in a short amount of time and equip them to be resilient to whatever is thrown at them?

This fun, highly interactive Teambuild which is based on the Myers Briggs Personal Style Assessment and incorporates elements from a variety of other Arise team builds will provide you and your team with an effective framework designed to help you function more productively straight away.

The entire day is structured around the following themes:

Have Fun; Let’s step back and get to know each other again; Let’s define our future.

To start, participants undertake a Team Bingo Activity. This activity provides an opportunity for the participants to learn something unique about each other in a fun interactive way.

They then move into an Ice Breaker Activity that creates great energy and showcases that it is sometimes tricky to work together.

The facilitator builds a Basic Understanding of preferences as individuals.

A number of fun Challenges are undertaken that highlight different aspects to a team and the strengths within the team. All challenges are structured to highlight how the team can achieve back in the workplace by utilizing both individual and team strengths.

Throughout the challenges our trained facilitators ensure that no-one is left out and often spend time highlighting strengths where others are unable to see them.

The challenges range from Challenges focused on operating as a diverse team; Change in an Environment; Problem Solving Challenges to Communication Challenges to brainteasers and some fun in between.

The Day ends with an activity that Connects the Team and provides the opportunity to share positive feedback on the day with each other and commit to things they will implement back at work.

After the Team build your team can start to immediately apply the knowledge and skills to leverage strengths and minimize gaps.

the Envisioned Outcomes Are:

  • Build an understanding of each individual’s personal preferences impact work style, relationship management and dealing with conflict;
  • Build an understanding of different personality types with an emphasis on how people think, act and interact;
  • Build an understanding of why individuals exhibit certain behaviors, especially when under pressure;
  • Learn to appreciate the difference in others;
  • Improve team work immediately;
  • Understand how their team can leverage from each other and utilize the strengths inherent in the different personalities to ensure success.

The Process

  • Individuals complete a Personal Preference questionnaire before the workshop
  • This questionnaire is assessed and reports for each individual as well as the team produced
  • Facilitator debriefs the team on the different style preferences, including experiencing “personal preference in action” through some fun challenges and discussions
  • Each team member is provided with and will have an opportunity to read through their individual reports and share insights and strengths that have been verified and share how they use this characteristic /preference in the team and at work

The Time Frame

  • Questionnaire completed and returned at least 1 week ahead of feedback session
